Happy Birthday, Gramps!
Today is my sweet Gramps 93rd birthday. His special day would have included lots of calls and messages from family, The Palms making him feel like a rock star and peanut butter pie made by my Aunt Julie.
My Gramps was gentle, calm and kind. I grew up living many states away from him, but every time I got to see and spend time with Gramps, I would leave feeling just really good and at peace.
I miss him, especially our phone calls, emails and Facebook messages that involved lots of sports talk. We tended to talk a lot of college basketball, Jags and Packers. Unprompted on many calls, he would bring up a specific Marquette basketball game or stat he read about. Those little things meant a lot – he paid attention to what his grandkid loved and was ready to always talk about it.
On his birthday today, I thought it would be nice to feature his obituary (that was so nicely written by my mom), so more of you can learn about my Gramps. He never wanted attention, and the way he passed and how we celebrated his life is a perfect example of that. But today, we remember, miss and celebrate him.
Happy Birthday, sweet Gramps!
